National Inclusion Week 2025

National Inclusion Week 2025

Being truly inclusive goes way beyond moral obligation for a business. Yes, it is the right thing to do – it’s the only thing an organisation should be thinking of doing in terms of giving opportunity to all and ensuring you have a diverse workforce where everyone can be their authentic selves.

However, the bottom line is that inclusive organisations also, often, have a better bottom line.

Research by McKinsey showed corporations identified as more diverse and inclusive are 35% more likely to outperform their competitors. A CIPD study showed diverse teams are 87% better at making decisions and are 70% more likely to capture new markets, with diverse management teams driving 19% higher revenue.

Companies should not make the pursuit of profits their only consideration, of course. Consumers – and employees – like to align themselves with businesses that share their own ethos. As a result, people are more likely than ever to want to understand your purpose and what you stand for. Who are you? Where are you going? What is your main aim?

At Pertemps, we support a number of initiatives across youth employment, over 50s, neurodiversity, black interns and Pride events. With our own diverse employees, trained and experienced, our people can help attract and retain the right people for the right jobs and manage a range of clients and candidates.

Businesses can aid diversity by supporting the communities in which they work, particularly those where there are the more vulnerable and where people need the help.

Diversity of thinking is good for business, with different voices and different perspectives ensuring better quality decisions and decisions that resonate with the people who will benefit from them; in our case it’s our clients, candidates, suppliers, employees and the local communities.

Pertemps has always been an equal opportunities employer. Over the years, this has progressed from ‘equal' to ‘equitable’. Not everyone in life starts from the same place. Some will have significant barriers and challenges to overcome before they even get to the starting line. Recognising this, and supporting people, can lead to long term benefits of trust and retention.

Of course, profitability is important to us, as is our sustainability, but we always have an eye on helping those in need. We have donated millions of pounds to charities, who do vital work out in the local communities especially in the areas of health and wellbeing. We have a match fund scheme where employees are encouraged to raise funds for their local/regional area, and we match fund their fundraise to the value of £500. We’ve supported Levelling Up projects and launched a series of DE&I commitments. We have a clear set of company values, and we encourage everyone to live by them.

We do what we can to ensure our workforce remains diverse. We do this, yes, because it helps us run a better business, but we also do it to truly add value to our communities.

Such a great newsletter - really strong messages. This particularly stood out: “…diverse teams are 87% better at making decisions…” It really does speak for itself. Different life experiences bring different perspectives, different empathies, and different instincts - and that’s exactly what drives better outcomes. One person can’t be expected to think for all. It’s so important to create workspaces where everyone feels safe, heard, and has the means to share ideas, challenge norms, and push back on bias in any form. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve overlooked something, only to be challenged by someone with a different lens - and the result is always something stronger, smarter, better. If everyone isn’t welcome at your table, how can you expect to have the best people in the room? And once they are there - how will they make the best decisions? Grateful to be where I am, and for the team at PNG. With everything going on in the world right now, I’m very proud to be part of a firm that puts inclusion at the heart of everything we do. #InclusiveLeadership #DiversityMatters #BetterTogether #WorkplaceCulture #Belonging #EquityAndInclusion #LeadershipWithPurpose #RecruitmentWithImpact
