Is No-Deal a big deal?
Buckinghamshire Business First (BBF) has conducted a survey among their members i.e. businesses in Buckinghamshire and out of some hundred responses so far over three quarters state that they feel that Brexit will affect their business in a negative way. Most of responses would have come from SME’s.
Many of these businesses have been around for some time and managed to ship through the recession and other challenges. Quite clearly these businesses are capable in dealing with challenges and are not averse to change.
These business leaders are experts, especially in their own market and have gained expertise over many years. They are concerned about their business and their staff. How can some politicians, in this context, ignore this and maintain that crashing out on a no-deal scenario is not a big thing?
As an SME myself I feel we are not heard or listened to and I am especially worried how casual the effect of a no deal Brexit seems to be looked at by some members of parliament.
Another point is that as a business and business leader you will try and make decisions by looking at all sides of an argument and try and dig out the facts or truth to make the best decision on an informed basis. You accept good arguments on both sides and generally work towards the best outcome, which often is a compromise. Sometimes we even acknowledge we have made a mistake and take corrective measures.
I am hoping that the politicians, the media and the public, i.e. all of us wake up and discuss the various arguments (not just the economic arguments) and the decision we are going to make in a responsible and professional manner and stop using this topic for grand-standing and selfish power-play.
