The state of the environment, including air, water, and food quality, has a direct impact on our health. In turn, human actions and behaviour impact the health of the planet, from climate change to pollution.

If you're anxiety-prone, experience mood swings, have respiratory problems, or have cardiovascular issues, check the air you're breathing. But it doesn't stop there. It's a lot more serious than these—an estimated 7 million deaths worldwide are attributed to poor air quality! The sources of air pollution are numerous, including transportation, industrial activities, and burning fossil fuels. Air pollution has been linked to a wide range of health problems, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and low birth weight. In addition, air pollution can affect mental health, with studies showing a link between air pollution exposure and increased rates of depression and anxiety.

Water quality and your health

Drinking water comes naturally to a new-born. It is a basic need on which our survival depends. 70% of the human body is water, just like the earth. Unfortunately, we do not consider what happens to us at a personal level when we contaminate, dig irresponsibly, deplete the natural sources, and mess with the life-giving liquid. From water scarcity to making it impure, we have created havoc!

Water quality directly impacts human health. Contaminated water causes a variety of illnesses, including diarrhoea, cholera, and typhoid fever. Unsafe water can also lead to the spread of infectious diseases such as hepatitis A and E. Furthermore, exposure to polluted water can lead to long-term health problems, including cancer and neurological disorders.

Food quality and its impact

The quality of the food we eat is also closely linked to the health of the planet and individuals. Agriculture practices such as the use of pesticides and herbicides lead to soil degradation and contamination of water sources. In turn, this affects the quality of food produced adversely and results in an increased risk of exposure to harmful chemicals for humans.
