The power of action: Impossible to ignore

The power of action: Impossible to ignore

End of 2016, less than 5 years ago:

I was working hard, long hours, and I wanted to be promoted for the first time (from graduate analyst to a consultant); I aimed for a high performer rating.

  • I was rated as non-performing. My performance manager told me there is no place for me in Accenture. No detailed reason or feedback provided.
  • I was also rolled off my project with less than 12 hours’ notice. The manager said he sees me as nothing more than an analyst. Our call lasted less than 10 min, again no detailed feedback or opportunity for development provided.
  • As a result, I was put on a development plan by HR. If I didn't pass it, my employment / visa would be revoked & I will have to go back to Russia.

This was the lowest point in my career. I did not think it was fair. But here I was. Sitting in a rented 20 square meter studio with my salary of 30k with no promotion, no bonus, on HR plan. I was depressed, then I was angry.

This was a catalyst. I took #action. Things picked up.

2021: I got promoted 4 times in less than 4 years and have been recognized by multiple industry awards.

What did I #learn? 3 simple things:

  1. #Failure is a redirection.
  2. #Failure is an opportunity.
  3. Be #grateful for the difficult moments, take them as a catalyst & take #action.

Do not let anyone tell you are not good enough.

Morale:

  • For you: Do not let anyone tell you are not good enough. Be grateful for the difficult moments, take them as a catalyst & take action.
  • For managers: Be patient, be fair and spend time on your people: provide them with detailed feedback & the opportunity to develop.

This is an amazing comeback Alina and one I can relate to. We could certainly have done with more time to discuss this.
