Raise the roof at the West Denver Test Engineering meet-up!
Trees in computer science are always described as upside down. That is to say with the trunk at the top and leaves further down. In the last 30 minutes a monster storm, probably caused by the mighty Thor himself, just tore through town and split one of our trees in 2. Where the bulk now rests comfortably on the roof of my house.
Sitting here staring at whats sure to be a painful insurance bill. I have finally come to appreciate the metaphorical upside down computer science tree. Sometimes the idea of the way something should look overrides the way something needs to work. For example, if my tree had been upside down my roof would be pristine.
Another, perhaps more relevant example, is in test automation. It all starts with a problem that needs a solution. Initially good progress is made then somewhere the problem begins to be overshadowed by what looks best. Shiniest perhaps, or more or less complicated. As this progresses the problem festers in the background as the automation around it grows. To paraphrase Faulkner. “Full of features and fury solving nothing”.
Maybe some of this sounds familiar. Maybe not. But maybe it has piqued your interest in learning about common mistakes in test engineering when it comes to automation?
If so, then you, my dear friend, are in luck. Because this (yes this) Thursday the 26th of July. The West Denver Test Engineering meet up is proud to welcome back one of the ll time great minds and speakers in this industry. Melissa Tondi. And she has come prepared with a barn burner of a talk “Automation: We’re Doing it Wrong”.
This is one you won’t want to miss. So come on by to the HomeAdvisor world headquarters in beautiful Lakewood Colorado at 6:00 Thursday. And get some tasty food. Followed by tasty knowledge.
And if anyone knows a good roof guy …
Heather Dunigan can help you out with the roof.
