ROI for Mobile Solar & Battery Storage Systems in Construction and Events

Hampshire Imports Ltd recently supplied a solar & battery storage system for a construction company in the UK which has highlighted the potential for rapid return on investment in mobile storage systems on construction sites and other temporary locations. The system will pay for itself in reduced diesel consumption in less than 1 year of operation.

We supplied a 14.7kW array of 32 monofacial PERC solar modules, high voltage 40kWh battery storage and a three phase 50kW inverter. A wind turbine will be added at a later date. The customer constructed steel frames for easy mounting of the solar modules onto temporary site offices and installed the battery, inverter and their own distribution board into a 10’ shipping container. So the whole system can be moved from site to site and set up easily. The system uses a standby diesel generator to top up the batteries only when necessary, which is hardly at all in the summer months but will be needed more in the winter.

All components are high quality from well known brands with a high level of technical support. Although the inverter has a 5 year warranty, the battery pack, installed in an IP65 cabinet with climate control and fire suppression system, has a 10 year warranty, and the solar modules have a standard 15/25 year manufacturers and performance warranty.

Based on the reduction in diesel consumption by the 55kVa generator (used previously) since the solar/battery system was first used (and accounting for reduced solar generation in winter plus increased power demand for heating), the solar/battery system shows a ROI within 1 year on savings in diesel alone.
