A great moment of pride for me!!!
Janos and Lajos worked for Fathom Since 2001/2002 and stayed with us through EPAM from 2004- 2014. They are outstanding people and exceptional engineers. Fathom and then EPAM were privileged to have them for 12 years, but in 2014 they left us to start their own business. We didn’t try to stop them, we helped them, advised them and encouraged them! Together with a handful of other talented guys, they started an idea that was their dream, around BigData. They used the money they made on profit from their Fathom and EPAM share options to get going but NOW AFTER JUST 15 months, THEY’VE SOLD THE BUSINESS TO HORTON WORKS, in a transaction of both technical and financial significance.
I always knew these guys were special. Very. When I introduced them to a VC last year I said (precisely) "I don’t really fully understand what they want to do, but they Are BRILLIANT and HARD-WORKING guys. . .  so whatever it is, it will be worth investing in." . . . . and it was (you’re welcome EuroVentures!! ;) )
This news has given me and other EPAM long-term founders and colleagues a huge sense of pride, as these are “our guys”, not just outstanding colleagues, but friends and memorable characters. It is so cool and so gratifying to see them do well, not just well, but REALLY WELL and SO QUICKLY. I have to say I am VERY proud of the fact I could help a bit and proud to be able to associate myself as are other EPAMers, with Janos and Lajos’ success. I hope they will enjoy the same experience with some of their own team one day. That’s how things work. I am sure they won’t be the last Fathom or EPAM guys I read about successfully realizing their entrepreneurial ambitions. A thoroughly enjoyable and prophetically fitting end to my first week after retirement!
I met them at the weekend and it was great to look at the two young programmers form 14 years ago and realize they are now very wealthy successful entrepreneurs . . . . and examples/role-models for others. . . . .
Speaking to them Saturday they realize and reminded me of the value of options in both Fathom and EPAM that they were given and the two times I had to fight and argues with them to acknowledge the value and to stay with us on our 14 year journey, when they both wanted to leave and take a different job for a minor pay rise and flattering title changes along the route. Lucky for EPAM and for them, this proves that long-sighted, hard work, tenacity and focus underpins achievement and success. Well done Janos, Lajos and the rest of your team from hundreds of your old colleagues and current friends.

I don't like objection they are exceptional people, but look like selling BigData business was right decision. Base on Gartner's 2014 Hype Cycle BigData move to disillusionment trend. http://na2.www.gartner.com/imagesrv/newsroom/images/HC_ET_2014.jpg;pv4cc7877f7de80268
