Strategic partnership for the industrialization of mycoprotein production
Oslo, 12/03/25
Norwegian Mycelium AS (NoMy) and Fenja BioSolutions AS (Fenja) have entered into a strategic partnership to scale up protein production in Norway and the EU.
NoMy and Fenja have signed an agreement marking an important step towards the industrialisation of mycoprotein production in Europe. Through this partnership, Fenja will develop and deliver bespoke processing facilities. The collaboration directly addresses Europe’s need for increased self-sufficiency in sustainable proteins and bridges the gap between Norwegian biotechnology, industry, and agriculture.
NoMy’s unique technology utilizes local residues and other byproducts from the agricultural, aquaculture, and food industries to produce high-quality protein with a low climate footprint. Together, NoMy and Fenja are creating a new Norwegian food industry to produce more sustainable proteins based on Norwegian raw materials. This supports the Norwegian authorities’ stated goal of promoting more local, sustainable ingredients in collaboration with the private sector (Råvareløftet, the Mission for Sustainable Feed, the Blue-Green Feed Forum, etc.), and aligns with the EU’s goal of strengthening food security and reducing reliance on imported proteins (the Farm to Fork Strategy, EU Green Deal).
“We are responding to Europe’s need for increased self-sufficiency by connecting Norway’s strong, sustainable agriculture and aquaculture sectors with innovative, forward-thinking companies,” says Idar Alvestad, CEO of Fenja BioSolutions.
The partnership between NoMy and Fenja sends a clear signal that investing in bio-industry and alternative proteins in Norway is not only possible, but also necessary to meet future food demands.
“While much industry is moving abroad, we are building it up at home. Together, we are creating a new industry where knowledge, resources, and technology converge,” Alvestad continues.
“This partnership is a significant step towards industrialising protein production in Norway and Europe. By combining NoMy’s advanced fermentation technology with Fenja’s expertise in process industries, we are establishing a platform for sustainable value creation based on local resources. Together, we are enabling a circular bioeconomy in practice,” says Ingrid Dynna, CEO of NoMy.
Fenja BioSolutions is founded by experienced industry builders with backgrounds from companies that develop and scale sustainable, commercial technologies. Leveraging this expertise, Fenja is now creating the future of mycoprotein production, where pioneering biotechnology meets industrial scalability, for a more productive and sustainable feed and food industry.
Norwegian Mycelium (NoMy) is an Oslo-based fermentation technology company focused on developing proprietary technology and intellectual property based on fungal fermentation. This innovation enables value creation from residual materials in industrial food production. By harnessing the mycelium’s natural ability to break down and transform nutrients, the company’s innovative processes convert waste into high-value ingredients, supporting the industry’s drive for more sustainable proteins, less waste, and a reduced carbon footprint.
