Travelling with the Icon

Travelling with the Icon

I am so lucky to travel with NRN on numerous occasions in the last 10 years. Be it Mumbai, Mysore, or Kochi :). During travelling and interacting with him, there are so many lessons I have learnt on which, I can literally write a book on it (Hope I can do it). This one is one of the most touching to my heart.

One day we were travelling from Santacruz to Cuff Parade in Mumbai, and we were stuck in a traffic jam at Haji Ali junction. Meanwhile, a 12-13-year-old girl carrying a bunch of books in her hands came to our car and knocked a glass at NRN’s side. He looked at that girl and decided to buy a book. He opened the window glass, picked up the first book and paid for the book to her.

I was just watching this and later I asked him; Sir, why did you purchase this book? He said what’s wrong with it. I said that this is the book “Dongari to Dubai” a life story of Dawood Ibrahim. He answered me with amazing reasons and kind of positivity what he sees in everything.

The first thing he told me was, look at the small girl, she should have been in school at her age but she is selling books. She was struggling maybe because of her economical condition. We as a society are responsible to support such kids, if people like us do not support her, we will be equally responsible if they go into bad to the worst situation.

He now turned on why he picked up that book. He told indeed he didn’t notice about the book as his attention was only to support that girl. But what’s wrong to read about Dawood? We must admit that he is a too intelligent person then only he could have created his empire whatever it is. Think for a while, if he could have used his intelligence in the positive side of the business, he could have been one of the most successful businessmen. There is always something good to learn from every person who has risen through the struggle to the top and so in Dawood too :)

How I wish I had not read this post Bharat bhai.... Should I ignore or should I react? You are phenomenal and your admiration toward Sh. NRN is genuine and commendable. But, without intending to offend, here is my perspective 1. I will never buy a pirated copy of a book. 2. I will never encourage child labor. Some goon is supervising that girl child and waiting to grab the money. 3. The don chose to run away and live in hiding. The victim families cannot forget or forgive 1993.
