7moI love your post. The blog was a good read! An additional thought: Companies that focus on AI governance are -yes- not slower but smarter. But I truly believe that AI Governance could have been much more smarter, if the marketplace knew the core principles of the GDPR. It is the fault of - seasoned privacy experts - who ignored the #1 obligation under the GDPR of a DPO: To inform & advice which according to most supervisory authorities is best fullfilled through regular trainings. Imagine this: Instead of setting Transparency, Lawfulness, Integrity, Fairness, Storage Limitation, Accuracy as the bare minimum of what society expects from data processing, we find ourselves in a place where after 6 years of GDPR enforcement only a "privacy expert" could tell you what the core principles are. If AI Governance would have started 6 years ago by DPOs filling the ears of all professionals across other domains that what is right to process data, then AI innovation would have had to submit itself to those very principles. Where does it leave us in a world where no AI Developers accross the world ever heard of core principles...let alone data subject rights: With high AI Governance challenges.
