2025 Mentoring Matters Program Participants provide excellent CSAT feedback

Deborah Sgro, Program Director

Despite the busy summer months, 82 mentees and 53 mentors are actively participating in our 2025 Session 2 Mentoring Matters program. Now at the halfway point of this 12-week session, participants are making strong progress. Early feedback is positive — 43 participants (32%) completed the first survey, giving the program an average rating of 4.7 out of 5. Participants appreciate the program’s structure and impact. One noted, “I really like how intentional and structured it is.” Another shared, “It’s an opportunity to speak to someone already in the work field.” A mentor added, “I value the chance to connect meaningfully, and the flexibility to tailor mentoring based on each mentee’s goals makes it both impactful and personal.” Exciting milestone: 13 participants have already completed the requirements to earn a certificate of completion. Our next session runs from October to December 2025, and we’ve already received over 80 mentee inquiries. If you’re interested in mentoring, please share contact details info and we’ll follow up with details.

We’re excited to welcome Kate Vyshydkevich as a Featured Mentor in Women in Big Data’s Global Mentoring Initiative. Since our launch in 2022, Kate has served as a mentor in 9 out of 11 sessions — a remarkable level of commitment. Her mentees consistently praise her for the guidance, insight, and encouragement she provides. Thank you, Kate, for the dedication and meaningful impact you continue to have on those you mentor.

And there’s more: as we look ahead, WiBD’s Global Mentoring Initiative has formed a task force to reflect on past programs. Erika Lunceford, Ralitza Soultanova, Jody Porrazzo, and Marina Alekseeva have joined me in reviewing feedback from participants in the 2022–2024 mentoring sessions. The goal is to understand how mentoring has supported career growth and skill development for both mentees and mentors. These insights will inform thoughtful recommendations to strengthen and evolve future programs. The task force will submit its final report to the Board in September 2025. Stay tuned for updates — and a big thank-you to the team for leading this important work.
