Whether you’re a social worker, parent, kinship caregiver, therapist, CASA, or someone who just wants to support my work, please celebrate with me! I know this book is going to help families heal, and that's a beautiful thing.
Why This Book Matters:
Family time visits are a harsh reality for children in foster and kinship care. Families report feeling "watched or judged," and well-meaning professionals are required to focus on documentation instead of building a bridge for connection. I understand why, but it can be BOTH, in my opinion.
As a result, children often return from family time visits with BIG feelings and behavior that disrupt the home or relationships at school. This is a common scenario I came across as a trauma therapist for foster, kinship, and adoptive families.
This book was created to speak directly to the child's experience, and to offer caregivers trauma-informed strategies that comfort them when they need it most.
Most importantly, Sullivan Goes to See Mama helps children prepare for the emotions they might feel before, during, and after visits, which can mitigate the stress of this experience and promote healing between children and parents.
Let’s face it, family time visits can make or break some of these families, and it's critical we do our best to provide a chance at reunification when it's in the child's best interest.
Please gather at my Virtual Book Launch Party to learn how to shift from supervised to supported. Pop in for five minutes or stay for the whole time, either way, I'd love to see you!
Together, we can offer families safety and connection during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives. If you serve kinship or foster families, please consider adding this event to your newsletter or promoting it on your social media platform.
Lastly, if you plan on attending or registering so you can watch the replay, let me know in the comments!
