A London restaurant is facing a major legal battle with the local council after a planning dispute over the installation of commercial kitchen equipment escalated into criminal proceedings. Brothers Ahmet and Sahin Gok, who have operated Meze Mangal on Lewisham Way for more than 20 years, have been hit with a £2.5m confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) – legislation typically reserved for serious criminal cases. The case stems from a complaint made several years ago regarding cooking odours and kitchen noise that led to the brothers investing nearly £50,000 in a new extraction system to address the issue.
