  • 🙌 We’re proud to share that Eversheds Sutherland Energy has been shortlisted for Energy Storage Law Firm of the Year at the Informa Energy Storage Awards 2025! 🔋 This recognition reflects the exceptional work of our Global Energy team, whose deep sector expertise continues to shape the future of energy storage and the broader energy transition. The award is based on the past 12 months of advice in the sector. Recently, the team advised on fundraisings totalling close to £1 billion for energy storage projects in the UK, acting for Pulse Clean Energy and Gresham House Energy Storage Fund on their respective £220 million refinancings of their BESS portfolios, and National Wealth Fund on the joint venture arrangements to provide, with Equitix and Aware Super, up to £500 million in funding to Eelpower Energy. The Gresham House refinancing was underpinned by our team’s work securing contracted revenue arrangements with Statkraft, EDF and Markel (marketed by Nephila) for nearly 800MW of capacity. Outside of the UK market, examples of the team’s recent work includes: 🟢 Finland: advising on the country’s first optimisation contract and co-located wind and BESS project 🟢 Germany: advising on the world’s first decentralised grid booster, a modular BESS system to stabilise the grid 🟢 US: representing WEC Energy Group in acquisitions of solar and BESS projects in Wisconsin and Texas, totalling over US$1.3 billion 🟢 Italy: structured a joint venture between ACL Energy, Penso Power Limited, and BW for electricity storage development 🟢 Spain: drafting and negotiating construction contracts for a 40MW BESS plant in Vizcaya 🟢 Sweden: advising Monsson Energy Nordics on its first BESS project in the country, a 60MWh system 🟢 Poland: advising on a first of its kind revenue floor arrangement for the Polish market Congratulations to all those have been shortlisted.

We’re proud to have advised Kommunalkredit Austria AG on the financing of Finland’s largest battery energy storage project. The 100 MW / 200 MWh SIMO BESS, developed by Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) in partnership with AMPTank Energy, represents a major step forward in Finland’s energy transition — enhancing grid stability, enabling greater renewable integration, and supporting decarbonisation across the Nordics. We advised Kommunalkredit as sole arranger and lender on the term loan financing. Our team comprised Mark Dennison, Peter Greenall, David Wyles, Timothy H. and Eunice W. (London); Teresa Villarroya Vargas and Eugenia García-Calzada Villar (Madrid) and Henrik Sandholm, Leena Pyymäki, Sanni Tirkkonen and Henri Minkkinen (Helsinki). Mark Dennison, Partner, commented: “The SIMO project is a landmark in Finland’s renewable energy journey and a clear demonstration of the critical role battery storage plays in achieving grid resilience and energy security across Europe. We’re delighted to have supported Kommunalkredit on this strategically important transaction.” Peter Greenall, Partner, added: “This transaction reflects the growing internationalisation of BESS as an asset class and builds on Eversheds Sutherland’s leading position advising across the sector. It’s exciting to see continued momentum in the market as investors and developers look to scale deployment globally.” Congratulations to all parties involved – FRV, AMPTank Energy, and Kommunalkredit – on bringing this pioneering project to life.
