As part of our participation in this year’s IFA Congress, over 30 Eversheds Sutherland Tax partners from 15 different offices convened to host a rooftop cocktail reception for clients, colleagues and new connections overlooking the stunning Lisbon skyline. The sun was shining, the Portuguese canapes delicious, and the conversations stimulating and engaging. Ben Jones, Co-Head of Global Tax, shared: "It was a real pleasure to connect with so many contacts, old and new, in such a vibrant setting. Our Portuguese tax partners Diogo Bernardo Monteiro and Bruno Arez Martins, together with their excellent team, were impeccable hosts and wonderful Lisboa did not disappoint. We have advised the senior management team of Aquavista Watersides & Marinas, the UK’s largest marina infrastructure provider, on its acquisition by Antin Infrastructure Partners. Aquavista, the UK’s largest marina infrastructure provider, operates 32 inland and coastal marinas offering over 5,300 berths and marine services across the country. The transaction, backed by Antin’s Mid Cap Fund I, marks a significant milestone in Aquavista’s growth journey, with management reinvesting alongside Antin to support the company’s long-term strategic ambitions. Our cross-practice team was led by Mike Birkett supported by Louise Finnie, Ruary Smith and Lara Satchwell (Corporate), Ben Jones and Jannine Nicholas (Tax) and Abigail Powell (employment). Steve de Polo, CEO, Aquavista said: “Eversheds Sutherland’s guidance has been instrumental in supporting our management team through this key strategic investment. Their expertise and responsiveness added real value and support to the management team throughout the process.”

On 7 October 2025, the Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe T.D., alongside the Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, Jack Chambers T.D., delivered the first budget speech of the current Government, Budget 2026. The Ministers announced a total budgetary package, as previously set out in the Summer Economic Statement, of €9.4 billion, split between public expenditure measures worth €8.1 billion and tax measures worth €1.3 billion. The Ministers highlighted that the country has transformed in recent decades, and in addition to performing well economically, has seen significant changes in areas such as employment, education, and the health of the country's public finances. The Department of Finance has projected a modified domestic demand, a proxy for the domestic economy, to grow by 3.3% this year, and by 2.3% next year. With these advancements and projections noted, the focus shifted to the issues facing those living, working, and doing business in Ireland today, which are underpinned by ongoing uncertainties in the global economy.
