One of the most significant opportunities for AI to benefit society is helping to accelerate cancer research and early diagnosis. Just this week our teams, working with partners, shared advances on three fronts: Research breakthroughs: Our C2S-Scale 27B foundation model, built with Yale University and based on Gemma, is a new frontier for single-cell analysis. The tool allows researchers to quickly simulate cell responses to thousands of potential treatments, speeding up the search for new medicines. https://lnkd.in/efr4KnPX Targeted Treatments: We're open-sourcing DeepSomatic, our new model capable of accurately differentiating actual genetic cancer variants from the technical artifacts (or errors) introduced during sequencing, addressing a critical hurdle in developing treatments. DeepSomatic successfully found hard-to-find small variants in pediatric leukemia cells that were missed by other tools. https://lnkd.in/evxkBGup Access to screenings: Color Health, supported by Google.org funding, is launching the Color Assistant to help 20,000 women access breast cancer risk assessments and screening. Powered by Gemini 2.5 models and Vertex AI, the agent quickly determines eligibility for mammograms, schedules breast cancer screenings, and coordinates follow up. Excited about these developments, and look forward to further progress.

Today at an Atlantic Council roundtable on the sidelines of The World Bank and International Monetary Fund’s Fall Meetings, I was delighted to discuss Google’s new report, “AI Works for Governments: A Digital Sprinters Report.” Developed in partnership with Price Waterhouse Coopers- PwC, the report offers a policy roadmap on how AI can work for governments in the developing world. Bottom line: perhaps even more so than in the developed world, AI offers a massive opportunity to help the developing world governments strengthen fiscal health, improve services, and drive inclusive growth. Our report finds that by 2035, widespread public-sector AI adoption can unlock a powerful triple dividend: 📈 Economic Growth: Boost real GDP by up to 4% and household income by 2%. 💰 Fiscal Health: Reduce fiscal deficits by as much as 22%. 🏛️ Public Services: Increase public-administration productivity by up to 3%. AI transformation won’t be automatic: it will demand immediate, intentional government deployment, driven by clear leadership, investment, and all-of-government initiatives. But those who succeed will help place themselves and their populations in the pole position for the 21st Century. One of the most exciting aspects of AI that we are working on is to use AI to advance science to benefit humanity. One of these areas is genomics… Over the last decade, Google Research and Google DeepMind has been advancing AI and genomics research with partners from universities and research institutions, making significant progress on how to better read and understand the genome. As we’ve made multiple breakthroughs and we’ve shared our research and progress to help researchers everywhere. The work by my colleagues began in 2015 with the application of deep learning techniques to genomics, and has led to achievements like the release of the first draft reference human pangenome in 2023. This year we released the new AI model AlphaGenome, helping researchers understand the "dark matter" of the genome. These are just a few of the highlights from the last decade - the blog below gives a few more and worth a read. And we are not done – Today, along with our partners at UC Santa Cruz Genomics Institute, we published a paper in Nature Biotechnology on a new tool called DeepSomatic that helps researchers better understand the genetic underpinnings of cancer, including pediatric leukemia. They used machine learning to find critical variants in a cancer cell’s DNA with higher accuracy than current methods, finding 10 small genetic variants in pediatric leukemia samples that were previously missed by other tools. The more variants identified, the more avenues our partners at Children's Mercy in Kansas City have to identify patterns in genetic data and discern the most effective treatment plan for each child. Am so proud of the pioneering work by many Google teams over the past decade. The research continues - more to come. And if you’d like to dig deeper on DeepSomatic: https://lnkd.in/ghEs69rk You can learn more about the the 10 years in genomics research at Google in this blog post: https://lnkd.in/gKGaqzwe

I am pleased to share that Google is investing $9B in South Carolina to expand our data center infrastructure in the state, deliver programs to protect energy affordability and train the local workforce for careers in the state’s growing tech and energy sector. This investment helps support job growth in South Carolina as it benefits from the upside of AI. Google is proud to build on our 15 years of work in the Palmetto State to help secure its success during the next wave of American innovation. https://lnkd.in/e3vwH7jb
