Mayo Clinic startup Pathway Bio seeks to advance precision treatment and improve outcomes for cancer patients by leveraging predictive AI and expansive data sets to create patient-specific treatment models. Learn more about the company and the founding team below. #innovation #oncology #cancercare #AI
We’re excited to introduce the Pathway Bio team 🚀 Pathway Bio is innovating in functional precision medicine by developing a platform that delivers actionable, individualised insights to optimise therapeutic outcomes for cancer patients. They empower clinicians to deliver the right treatment to the right patient at the right time, maximising efficacy and minimising unnecessary interventions. The promise of precision medicine has yet to be realised: It has been reported that only 1 in 4 patients are likely to benefit from the therapies they are prescribed, and for a Clinician prescribing a therapy, they will not know if the patient is going to have a positive outcome, especially when we consider the observed response rates for most approved therapies to be as low as 30%. Founded in 2024, Pathway Bio is addressing this gap with a data-first approach. By anchoring their technology on deep multiomic data, mapping the cancer's biology and predicting which therapies are likely to have the best outcome, they test the therapies in a patented and advanced exvivo model that retains the properties of the primary tumour. By integrating AI and machine learning into the clinical decision-making process, their platform translates complex biological data into tailored treatment strategies to bridge the gap to truly individualised medicine. The founding team brings together deep commercial and scientific expertise: 🚀 Bobby Kaura, Founder and CEO, has worked at the intersect of health, technology and venture building. He spent several years across numerous functions at Roche before joining Illumina as a Commercial Director to advance the applications of next generation technologies to drive next generation therapies and diagnostics. As part of the R&D function, Bobby co-launched Illumina Accelerator (UK) and co-founded Illumina for Startups (Global), a vehicle to invest in early-stage, promising startups, and working with entrepreneurs to realise their passion and create impact, he realised his own. 🧬 Prof. Tariq Mughal, Co-founder, is a world-renowned haematologist-oncologist with decades of experience across both academia and industry. His vision and clinical leadership anchor the mission at Pathway Bio. 🤖 Dr Kimberly Robasky, Co-founder, is a bioinformatics and AI/ML expert with experience in George Church’s lab at Harvard, as well as leading roles across data engineering and software development in biotech. Initially approached to advise Pathway Bio, her alignment with the mission was so strong she joined as a co-founder. They are also proudly funded by Cancer Research Horizons, supporting their mission to advance innovation in oncology.
