Bagels, Business, and a Boost of Friday Morning Energy! 🥯 This morning the Department Transportation & Infrastructure (DOTI), led by our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Administrator Jamila N. Bryant, hosted the August edition of Bagels & Business — and it was almost a full house! We enjoyed inspiring presentations from Jenn Hilhouse of DOTI and this month’s featured presenter, Hg Consult. Their insights highlighted the incredible projects DOTI is leading to keep Denver vibrant, connected, and thriving. Bagels & Business is a great space where professionals, local businesses (including MWBEs, SBEs, and DBEs), and key DOTI staff come together to share ideas, foster collaboration, and strengthen partnerships that move our city forward. And yes… this morning even came with its own theme music 🎶 — the perfect soundtrack to kick off a Friday at 8 AM! #DOTI #EquityDiversityInclusion #MWBE #SBE #DBE #Transportation #Infrastructure #BusinessNetworking #DenverBusiness #OSEI #OSEIDenver #HgConsult #EDI

60 Years Since the Voting Rights Act — and the Fight for Democracy Continues On August 6, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law, with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders standing behind him. It was a defining moment in U.S. history—a powerful acknowledgment that democracy must be accessible to all. The Act: *Protected the right to vote *Targeted racial discrimination in voting *Required federal preclearance for election law changes in jurisdictions with a history of voter suppression For many, this legislation represented the first time democracy was truly within reach. As we reflect on this anniversary, we must ask: What is democracy worth if access to it is not protected? The fight for voting rights is not just history—it’s now. #VotingRightsAct #CivicEngagement #OSEI #CivilRights #OnThisDay #SocialEquity #MLK #JusticeInAction #ProtectTheVote #DemocracyMatters #Leadership #PublicService #EquityInAction #TheFightContinues

DID YOU KNOW? Colorado was the fourth state in the U.S. to adopt the CROWN Act — banning race-based hair discrimination. Signed into law on March 6, 2020, the act protects hairstyles historically associated with race, including: • Braids • Locs • Twists • Afros • Bantu knots • Cornrows • Headwraps This law recognizes that natural and protective hairstyles are part of racial identity — and deserve legal protection in schools, workplaces, housing, and beyond. Colorado joined CA, NY, and NJ in leading this national equity movement. #EquityInAction #OSEIDenver #CROWNACT #HairEquity #NaturalHairFreedom #EquityMatters #InclusivePolicy #DiversityInGovernment #RacialJustice #CityLeadership #CulturalIdentity #EquityEverywhere

Race & Social Justice Academy Summer Refresher This week the Mayor’s OSEI proudly hosted a 90-minute in-person refresher course designed for city employees who previously completed RSJ Academy. ✨ Facilitated by our insightful Strategists and Trainers, Ariana Tyler and Ariana Orozco, M.Ed. the session deepened our collective understanding of interpersonal and systemic racism, and race-forward systems thinking. The room was filled with City & County of Denver employees who showed up with purpose—ready to take equity from theory into practice. This session was not just a refresher, but a re-commitment to applying equity in everyday decisions and interactions. 👏 Thank you to all who attended—and continue to lean into this work with intentionality and courage. #EquityInAction #SocialJustice #RaceAndSocialJustice #OSEIDenver #InclusiveLeadership #CityOfDenver #EquityChampions #AntiRacism #GovernmentEquity #RacialEquity #WorkforceEquity

A great night at the State of the City 2025!
Public Information Officer | Partnership Builder | Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leader | Volunteer Coordinator | Community Strategist
STATE OF THE CITY 2025 A Vision Rooted in Hope and Unity It was an honor to welcome city staff, community leaders, and dignitaries at the registration desk during Mayor Mike Johnston’s 2025 State of the City address. From the moment the doors opened, there was a shared sense of purpose in the air—hopeful, energized, and united in our commitment to building a stronger Denver. Mayor Johnston’s words captured it best: “Denver is a place where we turn to each other, and not on each other. A place where we believe in working to build something bigger than us—that includes all of us and lasts longer than any of us.” This speech was a call to action for all of us in public service and beyond. I’m proud to be part of a city government that believes in equity, belonging, and the collective power of community. Let’s keep leaning in. Together. 🌆💛 #StateOfTheCity2025 #DenverStrong #EquityInAction #MayorMikeJohnston #PublicService #OneDenver #OSEI #Leadership #CommunityFirst #CivicEngagement #WeBelongHere

Supporting Our People. Strengthening Our City. At the OSEI, we believe that when we support our people’s growth, we bring greater value to our communities—and to our shared future. 📚 A New Pathway for Learning That’s why we’re proud to champion a new, equity-centered learning opportunity for City and County of Denver employees: flexible, online micro-credentialing programs—offered at a tuition discount—through a dynamic partnership with the University of Denver and CU Denver. 💡 Powered by Innovation Spearheaded by the vision of OSEI Strategist and Trainer Dr. Aaron Conley, this initiative equips employees with accessible, high-impact learning in areas like equity, data, public policy, and leadership—without interrupting their service to our city. 🚀 Looking Ahead This launch marks just the beginning. We’re actively working to expand partnerships with additional local universities. Our current partners have shown enthusiastic support, recognizing the power of reciprocal relationships that prepare civic leaders for increasingly complex challenges. 📘 City employees can log into Workday to explore available offerings. This is equity in action, and it represents the future of public service in Denver. #EquityInAction #OSEIDenver #MicroCredentialing #TuitionDiscount #LifelongLearning #InnovationInGovernment #CivicLeadership #StrongerTogether #PublicService

Did You Know? Denver is leading with equity. Every City agency is now required to create and implement a Racial Equity Action Plan (REAP) —a bold move ensuring that equity is not just a value, but a citywide standard for how we budget, hire, serve, and govern. With guidance from the Office of Social Equity and Innovation, we’re embedding equity into every decision that shapes our communities. Because a fairer future isn’t optional—it’s essential. Let’s build a city that works for everyone. #EquityInAction #DenverEquity #SocialEquity #EquityMatters #RacialEquity #InclusiveGovernment #InnovationInEquity #CityLeadership #OSEIDenver #PublicService #EquityIsEssential #LeadWithEquity

The Mayor's Office of Social Equity & Innovation - City and County of Denver reposted this
With division and uncertainty in our country, Denver shows what America can be at its best: dreamers, builders and problem-solvers—people who don’t waver when tested but stand tall in their values. That’s the spirit we need to write the story of the New West, a place rooted in the Old West values of optimism, opportunity and a connection to the land and one another. But today, we also choose inclusion. That’s what makes Denver great. And that's what can make Denver the capital of this New West.
