📣Call for Papers: Focus Issue on Large Language and Vision Models for Connected and Automated Vehicles 📘 SAE International Journal of Connected and Automated Vehicles 📅 Submission Deadline: March 31, 2026 This focus issue aims to capture cutting-edge research at the intersection of large-scale foundation models and connected automated driving, addressing both theoretical foundations and practical implementations. The expected contributions will advance both theoretical understanding and practical deployment of foundation models in transportation, potentially influencing industry standards and regulatory frameworks. The convergence of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Vision Language Models (VLMs) with connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technologies represents one of the most significant emerging technologies in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). As CAVs evolve toward full connectivity and autonomy, the integration of these advanced AI models offers opportunities to enhance perception, decision-making, and human-vehicle interaction capabilities. We are very excited to announce that Dr. Nabendu Ghosh is joining the Editorial Board of the SAE International Journal of Materials and Manufacturing. Dr. Ghosh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He obtained his B.Tech. from Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology 118 (2007), M.M.E. from Jadavpur University (2010), and Ph.D. in Engineering from Jadavpur University (2019), where his doctoral research focused on advanced welding techniques for manufacturing applications. Before joining Jadavpur University in 2018, Dr. Ghosh served as an Assistant Professor for over a decade at Techno India Banipur 244 and SDET–Brainware Group of Institutions. During this time, he gained extensive experience in teaching, research, curriculum development, and student mentoring. His research interests include welding processes, advanced manufacturing technologies, materials characterization, and structure–property relationships in engineering materials. By integrating experimental methods with computational approaches, his work bridges the gap between materials science and applied engineering. Dr. Ghosh has successfully guided six M.Tech. scholars and one Ph.D. student, and currently supervises two Ph.D. researchers working in welding metallurgy and process optimization. He has presented his research at international conferences, including the MATADOR Conference (China, 2019) and Bule Hora University(Ethiopia, 2021), and has published extensively in journals indexed by Scopus and Web of Science. In addition to his research and teaching, Dr. Ghosh actively contributes to academic publishing. He serves as Associate Editor for Composites and Advanced Materials (SAGE), Associate Editor for the SAE International Journal of Materials and Manufacturing, and Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports (Springer Nature). He also serves as an external expert and advisory committee member at various institutions. Through his contributions to research, mentoring, and professional service, Dr. Ghosh continues to advance the fields of welding and manufacturing sciences while inspiring the next generation of engineers and researchers. We are pleased to announce the Jeff Dix is joining the Editorial Board of the SAE International Journal of Transportation Safety. Jeff is a Senior Principal Engineer in Safety Engineering at Nissan Technical Centre North America, Inc. . He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from GMI Engineering and Management Institute (now Kettering University) where he graduated with honors. He has 28 years experience in developing vehicle safety with extensive experience in front, side, and rear impact, as well as rollover testing. His current responsibilities include advanced development in passive safety. Jeff has a working knowledge of the regulations that affect the safety development of today’s vehicles, and is an active member of SAE, having authored several technical papers, and is a recipient of the SAE Ralph H.
