Last week, our District Director Steve Dixel hosted a visit of two small businesses who received U.S. Small Business Administration financing assistance through the 504-loan program. Joining the visit was SBA Mid-Atlantic Region Regional Administrator Jim Spencer along with National Rural Affairs Advocate Joe Knilans, Office of Advocacy; Director of Rural Affairs Richard Kingan, Office of Entrepreneurial Development; National Ombudsman Robert Bolen; Mid-Atlantic Regional Advocate Elmo Rinaldi, Office of Advocacy; Office of Government Contracting & Business Special Assistant Kennedy Smallwood; Eastern PA Deputy District Director Michael Kane; EDC Lancaster County President Ezra Rothman and Operations Manager Leigh Bardell. The group received a tour of NHT Logistics from CEO George Weaver, who is a third-generation family-owned small business located in rural Denver, PA. NHT Logistics provides transportation and storage solutions throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The next stop on the rural small business tour was Fox Meadows Creamery, located in rural Leola, to meet with Chad Fox, one of the owners of the family-owned business. The crops, cows, and milk are all grown and processed into ice cream on the family farm.

We hit the road this week, meeting with several small businesses on the Eastern Shore to hear about how they got started, business operations and expansion plans. We were honored to host Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Jim Spencer to see first-hand the great work #Maryland #smallbusiness owners are doing. Our first stop was Clayton Farms in Denton, third-generation farmers taking the family business to new heights, expanding offerings and setting the stage for the fourth generation to carry on. Thanks to Caroline County Economic Development & Clayton Farms for hosting us and to USDA Rural Development DE/MD, Downtown Denton & SBA Delaware for joining us.

SBA Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Jim Spencer and SBA Washington Metropolitan Area District Office Director Larry G. W. recently visited the 2025 Northern Virginia Small Business Person of the Year Linda Wang at NIRA Inc. The small business has utilized many SBA resources and programs, including the 8(a)-development program. In addition to their cutting-edge technology services, they also have a creative team work interest building Lego models they display around the office.
Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Jim Spencer and SBA West Virginia District Office Lender Relations Specialist Rick Haney welcomed SBA Deputy Administrator Bill Briggs to the Mountain State for the Bluefield Coal & Mining Show. Deputy Administrator Briggs delivered remarks highlighting the vital role the coal industry and manufacturers play in supporting the U.S. economy. Following his address, he spent several hours visiting exhibitors, engaging with them about their businesses, and sharing how the SBA can support their growth. Past shows have drawn approximately 6,000 visitors, and organizers expect this year’s attendance to be on par with previous years.
