It was wonderful to join my Wilson Center Latin America Program colleagues and our Argentine partners for this event this month, part of our ongoing project on identifying economic opportunities opened up by AI in five Latin American countries. The experts we heard from in Buenos Aires added a lot to my understanding of both challenges and positive prospects presented by AI, and I'm even more excited about the report that Wilson Center Latin America Program and Wilson Center | Science and Technology Innovation Program will be releasing this spring!
Program Coordinator @TheWilsonCenter's Latin America Program | Program Coordinator @TheWilsonCenter's Argentina Project
Last week, the Wilson Center Latin America Program had the pleasure of co-hosting the event “AI in Argentina: Opportunities for Innovation and Economic Development” at the University of Buenos Aires, in collaboration with our colleagues from the Wilson Center | Science and Technology Innovation Program and the UBA IALAB. This event was part of a broader initiative we are developing in partnership with Google, and we are especially grateful to Eleonora Rabinovich, Tamar Colodenco, and Nicolás Schubert for their support. Together, we’re analyzing the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence in five Latin American countries—Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile—with the goal of bridging the gap between technologists and policymakers. By encouraging a shared language, we aim to promote ethical, effective, and inclusive policy development in this digital age. Kellee Wicker, Director of The Wilson Center’s Science and Technology Innovation Program, opened the event with powerful remarks about the transformative potential of AI across the region. As she noted, Argentina has a real opportunity to lead—if it embraces public policies that ensure technological progress benefits all sectors of society, particularly the most vulnerable. We are deeply thankful to the brilliant minds who joined us: Juan Gustavo Corvalán, Cristian Santander, Paula Szenkman, Daiana Fernandez Molero, and Luis Galeazzi. And a special thanks to our partners at UBA, especially Antonella Stringhini, for her invaluable collaboration throughout the past weeks. Her contributions have been essential in shaping the report we will publish in the coming months. Several speakers emphasized the importance of producing substantive content, rather than merely abstract conversations. That’s exactly what we aim to do with this project—under the leadership of Anders Beal, Benjamin Gedan, and Kellee Wicker. Grateful for the opportunity to continue this dialogue. We'll keep working to ensure that AI becomes a tool for sustainable development and equitable growth across Latin America.

Within 72 hours of returning to the White House, President Donald Trump issued a landmark Executive Order aimed at reshaping US cryptocurrency policy and positioning America as a global leader in digital assets, blockchain innovation, and financial technology. Listen to a selection from a recent Digital Assets Forum briefing analyzing the order's impact, in which we explore what is changing and how this directive could influence US fiscal and monetary policy moving forward. 🎧 https://bit.ly/3DTkEir Co-hosts: Kellee Wicker & Alan Rechtschaffen Digital Assets Forum
