Shimmering, shining, splendid scenes at TEDxSaltLakeCity’s Countdown event in Salt Lake City, US highlighted Indigenous stories, solutions for clean water and air, zero-waste grocery shopping and many more local ideas. This year, dozens of TEDxCountdown events are happening around the world. Of those, TED Countdown, TED’s climate focused initiative, is supporting 19 anchor events — including TEDxSaltLakeCity — with funding and guidance. These events are part of a global push to spotlight local climate challenges and solutions, while building on the momentum from the TED Countdown Summit held in Nairobi this past June. With sound teamwork, you can accomplish a lot with a compact venue. In Kyoto, Japan, TEDxDoshishaU hosted its event entirely in a large lecture hall. The open space served as the setting not only for the talks but also breakout sessions that ranged from discussions to drawing activities, and created opportunities for attendees to mingle easily while exploring multiple activities. By organizing the events effectively across different parts of the tiered room and communicating clearly with attendees, the team provided a smooth event experience.
