While medical schools routinely teach students how to treat the aftermath of gunshot injuries, they rarely address how to talk with patients about avoiding them in the first place. Siobhan Wilson, MD, PhD, clinical associate professor, General Internal Medicine, has been elected to the inaugural class of Faculty Affiliates for The BulletPoints Project at UC Davis. The BulletPoints Project was created to enhance education, training and awareness about firearm injury prevention for medical and mental health professionals. Congratulations, Dr. Wilson!

🚨New research alert! “Experiences with and perspectives on firearm injury prevention among emergency medical services clinicians,” has just been published in BMC Emergency Medicine. The new paper by Aubel et al. California CCW instructors are now required to include one hour of mental health training in CCW license classes. BulletPoints Community has created a free 60-minute video training satisfying that requirement by teaching firearm owners how to recognize warning signs of mental health crises and ways to keep someone in crisis safe. This course was developed with input from CCW instructors, mental health professionals, and public health educators, and is taught by Amy Barnhorst, MD, a psychiatrist at UC Davis. https://lnkd.in/gdkvezZC
