The UN Sustainable Development Report 2024 (https://lnkd.in/ghY9heFc) provides a status update on the SDG goals. Only 16% of the SDG targets are on track to be achieved by 2030. The remaining 84% show limited or a reversal of progress, with stagnation since 2020. Key areas such as Zero Hunger, Sustainable Cities, Life Below Water, Life on Land, and Peace and Justice are notably off-track. Key Findings: - The pace of progress varies significantly, with Nordic countries leading while the poorest and most vulnerable nations fall further behind. - Reforming the global financial architecture is essential to provide low-income countries with the affordable long-term capital needed for sustainable development. - Global cooperation is more critical than ever, with a new Index of support to UN-based multilateralism highlighting disparities in commitment across nations. - Food and land systems are particularly off track, with 600 million people projected to suffer from hunger by 2030, and greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture and land use remaining a significant challenge. The UN Sustainable Development Report 2024 paints a sobering picture, but it also serves as a call to action for intensified global efforts to achieve a more sustainable future for all. #SustainableDevelopment #SDGs #GlobalCooperation #ClimateAction #UN #FutureSummit #sustainabledevelopmentgoals

A recent report by the UN Development Solutions Network (SDSN) warns that, as we reach the midpoint of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), none of the SDGs are projected to be accomplished by 2030 if the current pace continues. Furthermore, on average, less than 20% of the underlying targets of the SDGs show progress towards achievement. These metrics are leaving our poor nations more vulnerable. The report emphasizes that the disparity in SDG achievements between high-income countries (HICs) and low-income countries (LICs) is projected to widen by 2030 compared to the situation in 2015. This widening gap poses a significant threat to the decade-long progress made towards achieving the Goals. It’s crucial that nations amp up their global financing and take actionable steps towards Global Goals. Additionally, we can take action now by recognizing the urgent need for science-based tools and strategies at all levels to drive SDG implementation and enhance accountability. This can be done by supporting and actively engaging in global partnerships to foster multilateral cooperation. Together, we can ensure effective and coordinated efforts towards achieving the SDGs and creating a sustainable future. 🌍 How do we bridge divides for a #sustainable future? As we reach #halftime towards the #SDGs, greater investment is needed to make meaningful progress. At #UNGA this year, world leaders launched a high-level dialogue on Financing for Development to accelerate progress toward the #SDGs. So what does this mean? 🤲 Closing the #Gap: The goal is to find innovative solutions to reduce the disparities between rich and poor nations. In a world facing increasing fiscal challenges, acting now is crucial. 💰 Financial #Divide: Many developing countries are burdened by debt, making it difficult to invest in SDGs. Some nations face borrowing costs up to eight times higher than developed ones, creating a debt trap that affects over 40% of those living in extreme poverty. 🚀 Scaling Up SDG #Financing: To meet the SDGs, we need bold policies and new funding sources. The Secretary-General proposes an SDG Stimulus of $500 billion annually to boost affordable, long-term development financing. Deeper reforms to the global financial system are also needed to address systemic issues. 🌐 A New #BrettonWoods Moment: The Secretary-General calls for a new global financial architecture, reflecting today's economic realities and power dynamics. It's an opportunity to rebuild global solidarity and drive sustainable development and climate action. _ _ _ #Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eA5psy5V 🌟 We must work together to create a fairer and more sustainable world by 2030. #SDGs #FinancingForDevelopment #GlobalSolidarity #UN #UnitedNations #Development #Financing
