Copywriter at heart, Brand Strategist by trade, 10+ years making brands unforgettable

A few years ago, my paid advertising copies weren't hitting the mark. I’d put in the hours, craft what I thought were great posts, and...crickets. Engagement was low, and the audience just wasn’t connecting. It felt like I was shouting into the void. Frustrated, I realized I needed a change. I needed a simple, effective strategy. So, I created a checklist that transformed my approach to content creation. Now, I follow this every single time: 1️⃣ Honesty First: Authenticity is non-negotiable. People can sense when you're being genuine versus just trying to sell something. I always make sure my message is honest and true to my values. 2️⃣ Clarity is Key: If your message isn’t clear, it’s lost. I break down complex ideas into simple, digestible parts. No jargon, no fluff—just clear, straightforward content that’s easy to understand. 3️⃣ Utility Above All: Every piece of content must be useful. It has to provide value, whether it’s actionable tips, insightful information, or a fresh perspective. I ask myself, "How does this help my audience?" If I can’t answer that, it’s back to the drawing board. This checklist has been a game-changer for me. My engagement soared, and my audience started connecting with my content on a deeper level. In my latest video, I walk you through this checklist in detail and show you how to apply it to your content strategy. Check it out and start creating content that truly resonates. #ContentCreation #MarketingTips #AuthenticContent #DigitalMarketing #ContentStrategy

Yesterday I mentioned that a CMO had mentioned that they weren't sure that their content was working or worth the effort anymore. I shared my perspective that I believe it's definitely worth the effort and I gave several reasons why I believe that to be the case. But - if it's not moving the needle for your organization, clearly something is off and needs to be looked at. In my experience, there are several key 'mistakes' that marketers make when producing blog-style #content. 👎 Many create content on stale topics. Yesterday's news just doesn't captivate readers. It bores them. 👍 Instead, share evergreen tips. These help readers whatever the year. Double check your ideas. Will they still matter in 2025? Choose topics accordingly. 💔 Others duplicate common content rather than providing any real unique insights.  ❤️ Don't just echo the same angles the competition is putting out. Stand out with new perspectives. Surprise readers with fresh takes. Give them something they can only get from you. ❌ Another error is optimizing too much. Keywords for #SEO  matter, but when you go overboard, writing feels forced. ✔️ Make good compelling content first. Optimize second - but focus on value and telling your perspective or story in an interesting way. ⛈️ Some forget the audience. People care about their pain points. Address those directly. Don't give generic advice that no one really relates to. 🌞 Talk to the reader. Help them win. Keep them as the focus - not whatever it is you ultimately want to say about yourself. 😫 One last trap is chasing trends. Hot topics come and go. Jumping on a news story and trying to somehow shoehorn your story into it feels like a strech more often than not. 😀 Let the vast majority of your content be tried and true stuff that stands test of time. Viral won't get traction for long. Most importantly, learn and grow. Keep improving your content game and the rewards will show up over time.

As promised this post is about content writing. I am sharing My seven mantras for content writing: 1. Know Your Audience: Understand who you're writing for, is it a specific domain or a general one? Knowing whom you are writing for, helps to tailor your content to their interests, needs, and preferences.       I write about various topics on Intellectual Property and Technology transfer, my experience, achievements, and motherhood. I post a combination of specialized and generalized content. For instance, while writing about IP and technology transfer, I keep it specific but simple so that anyone can understand. 2. Start with an interesting beginning: Our attention span has decreased with the advent of social media there are so many options, so how do you ensure getting your reader's attention right from the beginning? You could start with a thought-provoking question, a surprising fact, or a compelling anecdote. The book cover adds value to the book similarly the opening lines of the post determine its success. 3. Provide Value: Value varies from person to person, but offer information, entertainment, inspiration, or a solution to a problem which valuable to your audience. 4. Maintain Clarity and Conciseness: Write clearly and straightforwardly. Avoid jargon or overly complex language that might confuse your readers. Unless you plan to define the jargon, it is better to avoid it. IP and technology transfer have a lot of legal terms that may not be known to everyone, thus, I try to define the jargon that I am using either in the post or in the Newsletter. I have now made a practice to include it in presentations as well. 5. Use Visuals and Multimedia: Incorporate images, videos, infographics, or interactive elements to enhance the visual appeal. 6. Tell a Story: Stories are relatable and memorable, in addition to captivating the readers. Narratives enable the connection. I have noticed I get more engagement when It is related to some instance from my life. Though it is personal, it is original and many can relate to it. 7. Encourage Interaction: Invite your readers to leave comments, ask questions, or share their own experiences. This fosters a sense of community and engagement. A call for action is a must to add. Sometimes you get ideas for your next posts from the comments. Also, Experimentation helps to find what the audience seeks and which content style is working.
