My patients are often at risk of losing their jobs or withdrawing from school due to procrastinating. Here are the tips that saved them: 1: Chunk Tasks Take your tasks and break them down into the smallest parts possible. Start with a difficult or important task first to get the largest ROI. 2: Create Rituals Create a consistent schedule to do a specific task. Develop a short routine to kickstart momentum: It can be as simple as preparing a cup of coffee or completing a skincare routine. Stick to your routine daily until it becomes a habit. 3: Be imperfect Set realistic expectations and just get started. Ditch the "all or nothing" attitude and commit to progress over perfection. Review your work, adjust your expectations, and keep going. 4: Positive Reinforcements Decide on a reward before starting a task - a treat, break, or anything you enjoy. Only allow yourself to enjoy it once the task is completed and give yourself a limit. Positive reinforcements build stronger work habits. 5: Minimize Distractions Identify your biggest distractions. This could be alerts, social media, excessive noise, etc. Use tools to eliminate these interruptions - turn off notifications during work time, use noise-cancelling headphones, and clean your workspace. Practice mindfulness and train yourself to stay focused on the task at hand. 6. Practical procrastination Procrastinate on the things that aren't absolutely necessary at the time. This may be tasks such as responding to emails, scheduling/attending meetings, scrolling social media, or answering phone calls. These are the tasks you should delegate or stop if possible. 7. Consider the Consequences Always think about the potential outcomes of completing or not completing a task. This can often provide the motivation needed to start or continue. What would you add?

Dear Professionals, Is productivity overrated? Oh, not at all. But you can’t wish it away. You need proven strategies to improve your productivity in the coming year! Before diving into that, let me share a little story. During my undergraduate days, I always multitasked. I combined a part-time home schooling initiative with my academics. In the evenings, I would go to various homes to teach secondary school students compulsory subjects (English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). In no time, more parents showed interest, and to maintain the quality of service, I had to involve other intelligent colleagues. We prepared many of these students for their final exams, and they achieved great success. I was also involved in student politics and had to lead delegations to the vice-chancellor and government for various causes that required advocacy and high-level interventions. Amidst all these activities, I raised funds and organized several health outreaches to underserved communities. I built leadership, organizational, research, and time management skills that helped me succeed as a student. These skills have not only helped me as a professional but have also opened doors and unlocked many opportunities too numerous to mention. But here’s the thing: you need to put systems in place because systems are drivers of productivity. Some systems have worked for me. Have a go at them: 1. Time Blocking: Allocate specific blocks of time for different tasks throughout your day. This helps maintain focus and prevents multitasking, which can reduce productivity. Use tools like Google Calendar to schedule these blocks and stick to them. For instance, dedicate mornings to deep work and afternoons to meetings and emails. 2. The 2-Minute Rule: If a task will take less than two minutes to complete, do it immediately. This prevents small tasks from piling up and cluttering your to-do list. This hack is particularly useful for quick emails, small administrative tasks, or filing documents. 3. Prioritize with the Eisenhower Matrix: Organize your tasks based on urgency and importance using the Eisenhower Matrix. - Quadrant 1: Urgent and Important (Do immediately) - Quadrant 2: Not Urgent but Important (Schedule for later) - Quadrant 3: Urgent but Not Important (Delegate if possible) - Quadrant 4: Neither Urgent nor Important (Eliminate if possible) By focusing on what truly matters and eliminating unnecessary tasks, you can significantly boost your productivity and efficiency. I see you winning in the coming year, 2025. What strategies do you employ to be productive? Feel free to share; iron sharpens iron. A lighted candle doesn’t lose anything by lighting another. Till we all win!

How often are you procrastinating on your goals? The cost of procrastination isn't just time lost—it’s the potential of the life you envision slipping away. I used to procrastinate a lot on simple tasks because of life’s anxiety. If you're grappling with procrastination like I was, here are 9 strategies that helped me: 1. Pomodoro Technique: Breaking work into focused 25-minute intervals, followed by 5-minute breaks, helps prevent burnout and stay concentrated. 2. 2-Minute Rule: Addressing tasks that takeless than 2 minutes immediately helps prevent tedious tasks from piling up and causing you to feel overwhelmed with a laundry list of tasks 3. 5-Second Rule: Counting down from 5 and starting immediately helps overcome the initial resistance to tasks. 4. 1-3-5 Principle: Setting one major goal, three medium tasks, and five minor to-dos each day helps prioritize effectively. 5. 80-20 Rule: Focusing on the 20% of tasks that yielded 80% of the results helps you move the important needles forward 6. Eat the Frog: Starting the day by tackling the most challenging task while energy iss high sets a positive tone for the day. 7. “Not To-Do" List: Identifying and eliminating non-essential tasks or delegating them frees up time and energy for important endeavors. 8. Breaking Tasks into Manageable Pieces: Dividing large projects into smaller, more manageable tasks reduces overwhelm and boosts motivation. 9. Saying No to Multitasking: Focusing on one task at a time helps avoid spreading yourself too thin and improves concentration. Share these strategies to help others break free from procrastination!

Ever felt like you’re dodging work? It’s not the workload, it’s the emotions it stirs. Read on. Understanding this can transform your productivity. You're avoiding tasks that make you feel: → Frustrated → Confused → Bored → Anxious → Overwhelmed The truth is, a lot of procrastination is deeply rooted in fear. Here's the kicker: By understanding this emotional underpinning, we can start to tackle procrastination faster. So, how can we move forward? 1.) We’ve all been there – staring at a task list that keeps growing and a clock that won’t slow down. As an entrepreneur, I've faced the all-too-common hurdle of becoming my own bottleneck. Tasks pile up, and before you know it, your progress stalls. Since last 6-8 months, I have started following this “5 minute rule” and it has really helped me declutter and reduce the work pile. It's simple: If a task takes less than 5 minutes, do it immediately. From sending a quick email reply to connecting 2 people to setting up a meeting, this principle is a game-changer in boosting efficiency. And here is why “Under 5 minute rule” is so powerful? 1. Clears Mental Clutter: Quickly tackling minor tasks prevents them from piling up and consuming mental space that could be invested in more critical activities. 2. Encourages Momentum: The completion of a small task generates momentum and a sense of accomplishment that propels you forward, making you more likely to tackle larger tasks. 3. Reduces Procrastination: By addressing simple duties immediately, you train yourself to act, subconsciously strengthening your decision-making muscle. It took me conscious effort to implement it given the initial inertia but after pushing myself do this every time, I’ve seen a noticeable change in my productivity. It’s incredible how tiny wins build up, fuelling momentum and creating a ripple effect of efficiency across. Have you ever tried something like this before?
