In response to the issue of the Wyomissing fence, I strongly believe that the school should be able to build a fence around it’s football field (“Wyomissing fence case cast in wider legal issue,” Reading Eagle, Dec. 1).

As far as I know, Wyomissing is the only school district in Berks County that does not have a fence around its stadium. And, as with all things Wyomissing, it would be the best looking fence in the area.

I learned from speaking with Wyomissing football coach Bob Wolfrum that he has had to deal with damage to the field from vehicles, graffiti on the stands and press box, trash, dog excrement and broken glass. The fence certainly would protect his players as well as the integrity of the field at a much higher level.

Wolfrum is in his 28th season as head coach of Wyomissing, garnering 262 wins, the most in Berks County history, seven district titles and a state championship. The coach has mentored thousands of young men over the years by not just teaching them the game of football but also many life lessons along the way. Wolfrum wants a fence. Why can’t he get one?
