A Reading man was sentenced to two to seven years in state prison after pleading guilty to burglarizing a city home in August 2012 and to fleeing from police twice in the following months.

Jose C. Rivera-Rivera, 30, of the 100 block of North Ninth Street appeared Monday before Judge Stephen B. Lieberman to enter guilty pleas in the burglary case, a drug possession and escape case and a fleeing and reckless endangerment case.

Authorities said Rivera-Rivera broke into a home in the 600 block of Locust Street between 6:40 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 29, 2012.

He stole a video game system, a bicycle, three Social Security cards and jewelry.

Detectives were able to match fingerprints left at the scene with Rivera-Rivera’s.

He also pleaded guilty to intending to deliver cocaine, theft, institutional vandalism and escape from a Dec. 29, 2012, incident. Authorities said that during that incident, Rivera-Rivera smashed the rear window of a police vehicle to avoid being arrested.

Rivera-Rivera also pleaded guilty to fleeing to avoid arrest and two counts of reckless endangerment for leading police on a chase through the city on Jan. 24, 2013.

He was arrested that night and placed in county prison the following day.

Lieberman issued separate but concurrent sentences on the various convictions for a total sentence of two to seven years.

Rivera-Rivera will receive credit for 682 days served.
