The Innovative Technology Action Group, an initiative of the Chester County Economic Development Council, will host its annual Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology Conference on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The free conference connects hundreds of attendees with hands-on STEM experiences and industry role models. The conference was launched in 2001 to address the underrepresentation of women in technology fields, according to a press release about the event.

This year’s event will celebrate 25 years of inspiring girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. It’s being held at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks, 100 Station Ave. in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County,

“The World Economic Forum announced earlier this year that women make up just 28 percent of the global STEM workforce. GETT is a practical way to introduce girls to STEM fields in a fun, engaging half-day experience,” Daisy Adams, GETT chairwoman and senior director, Digital Operations and NOC at Bentley Systems, said in a statement. “Since the Chester County Economic Development Council launched this program 25 years ago, we are seeing a different dynamic at play with more and more girls inspired to learn about STEM-related careers.”

The Expo will include more than 100 hands-on STEM activities in a variety of fields including computer science, engineering, coding, robotics, healthcare, environmental science, culinary arts, on-air and behind-the-scenes broadcasting, architectural design, and more.

“Through GETT and our ITAG program, we’re breaking down barriers by directly connecting girls in our region with companies and their female STEM leaders across diverse roles — from software development to broadcasting to health sciences,” Marianne Stack, ITAG project director, Chester County Economic Development Council, said in a statement. “When these students interact with successful women in STEM, it transforms their perspective on what’s possible and inspires them to envision themselves as the next generation of STEM innovators.”

Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology started as a one-day conference in Chester County in 2001, focused on the computer and IT fields, according to information on the organization’s website. Since then, it has grown its geographic footprint to include students from across Southeastern Pennsylvania and showcases Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields. In addition, the program has expanded to include experiences throughout the year.
