Transfer Function exercises
These exercises may be carried out in conjunction with the Transfer Function Notes. Exercise 1 A system consists of a potentiometer with a transfer function of 0.04V/mm in series with an amplifier with a gain of 6, in series with a V/I converter which forms the input to a resistor of 4 with an output current. The current is amplified with a gain of 500 and the electromagnetic torque arm which produces 2Nm per Amp. Draw a block diagram and deduce the overall transfer function. Determine the input position of the potentiometer in mm which produces a torque output of 20Nm.
Exercise 2
Consider a damper or dashpot as illustrated
The resistance force f(t) is proportional to the velocity of the piston. If the displacement of the piston is then we obtain the following equation:
If the displacement is the input and the resistance is the output then sketch the block diagram and determine the transfer function.
Exercise 3
For a mass on a spring of stiffness and with no damping is subject to a forcing , the displacement is governed by the following equation:
If the forcing is the input and displacement is the output then sketch the block diagram and determine the transfer function.

Exercise 4 (Assignment Question 1) The LRC circuit:
Vi(t)
V0(t)
is governed by the differential equation
If is the input and transfer function.
is the output then sketch the block diagram and determine the
