Introduction
Introduction
IP passthrough allows you to use your Nokia 9300 or Nokia 9500 Communicator to access the Internet or corporate network through your computer. With IP passthrough, your Nokia 9300 or Nokia 9500 Communicator uses an IP address to access the network. You can use IP passthrough with any application installed on your device that uses an Internet access point. This offers you an alternative way of accessing networks with your device. If you only exchange data between your device and your computer, there is no need to use IP passthrough; a Nokia PC Suite connection is sufficient. For IP passthrough, you need the following: Nokia Network Bridge software A DKU-2 data cable A computer with Windows 2000 or Windows XP and access to the Internet If your computer uses wireless LAN (WLAN) to access the network, you cannot use IP passthrough. Use a network cable connection instead. To start using IP passthrough, you need to proceed in the following order: 1 Install Nokia Network Bridge. 2 Enable IP passthrough on your device. 3 Connect your device to the computer. 4 Create a network bridge on your computer.
Nokia Network Bridge is bridging software that includes the necessary drivers (RNDIS) for IP passthrough. You can download the latest version of Nokia Network Bridge from the Nokia site at www.nokia.com. To install Nokia Network Bridge: 1 Double-click the downloaded exe file. 2 Read and accept the license agreement, and click Next to continue.
By default, the data cable connection between your device and your computer is used for Nokia PC Suite. To be able to use IP passthrough, you must allocate the data cable connection for IP passthrough. To enable IP passthrough: 1 Press Desk, and select Tools Control panel Connections Cable setup. 2 Change the value of the Data cable mode field to either of the following: IP passthrough The data cable connection is used solely for IP passthrough. If you select this option, you cannot use PC Suite through the data cable connection. IP passthrough overrides PC Suite The data cable connection can be used for PC Suite and IP passthrough. If you select this option, your PC Suite connection is terminated if an IP passthrough is opened when you have an active PC Suite connection. Once the IP passthrough connection is

Creating a bridge
Creating a bridge
When you connect your Nokia 9300 or Nokia 9500 Communicator to your computer with a data cable that uses IP passthrough, your computer sees your device as a new local area network (LAN) connection. Bridging connects two networks together so that they act as one network. Before you create a bridge, make sure you do the following: Install Nokia Network Bridge. Enable IP passthrough on your device. Connect your device and computer with a DKU-2 data cable. Tip: For best performance, create the network bridge connection immediately after connecting your device to the computer. Note: Create the network bridge connection immediately after connecting your device to the computer. Especially with Windows XP you have to activate the bridge without delay. If you experience any problems creating the bridge then disconnect the cable, connect it again and this time create the bridge immediately. To create a bridge:
1 On your computer, click Start Settings Control Panel Nokia Network Bridge.. 2 Select the connection from the list, and click OK.

Using IP passthrough requires an Internet access point on your device. You can use the same Internet access point for all your IP passthrough connections. If your computer uses a dynamic IP address, do not enter an IP address for the Internet access point. Your Nokia 9300 or Nokia 9500 Communicator gets the IP address it uses for the connection from the network DHCP server. If your computer uses a static IP address, you need to enter an IP address for the Internet access point manually. To create an Internet access point: 1 Press Desk, and select Tools Control panel Connections Internet setup. 2 Press New.
4 Press Next.

General
If you cannot see your device on Windows Device Manager or Network Connections, do the following: Check that your device is connected to the computer with a DKU-2 data cable. Check that the used data cable mode on your device is IP passthrough or IP passthrough overrides PC Suite. (Tools Control panel Connections Cable setup) In IP passthrough overrides PC Suite mode, your device is not shown unless you have an active IP passthrough connection.
If this does not work, do the following: 1 Open Windows Device Manager. (Start SettingsControl Panel System Hardware Device Manager)
Installation
If you cannot start the installation, make sure that you have administrator rights to your computer. If you connected your device and computer before installing Nokia Network Bridge, do the following: 1 Cancel the installation. 2 Remove the cable from your computer. 3 Install Nokia Network Bridge. 4 Connect the data cable to your computer. 5 Install the RNDIS driver as usual.
