Teacher Performance Expectations (TPE)

TPE 1: Specific Pedagogical Skills for Subject Matter Instruction Candidates for a Multiple or Single Subject Teaching Credential demonstrate the ability to teach the state-adopted academic content standards. TPE 2: Monitoring Student Learning During Instruction Check for student progress toward achieving state-adopted academic content standards. TPE 3: Interpretation and Use of Assessments Include formal and informal assessments as part of the class profile. TPE 4: Making Content Accessible Review characteristics for developing standards-based thematic units to provide a balanced and comprehensive curriculum. Discuss differentiated instruction as means of making content accessible to all students. TPE 5: Student Engagement Collect community resources to make instruction relevant to ones group of learners. TPE 6: Developmentally Appropriate Teaching Practices Meet with grade level peers to discuss strategies for meeting the unique needs of different developmental levels. TPE 7: Teaching English Learners Include information in the class profile identifying English Language Learners and discuss strategies to accommodate different levels of English proficiency. TPE 8: Learning About Students Create a sample classroom newsletter to be sent to the families of students enrolled in your classroom. Maintain a log of parent communications. TPE 9: Instructional Planning Discuss elements of short-term and long-term plans including goals for individual students. TPE 10: Instructional Time Discuss procedures for routines and transitions. TPE 11: Social Environment Identify characteristics of effective physical and social environments that promote a positive climate for learning. Develop a student discipline plan. TPE 12: Professional, Legal, and Ethical Obligations Discuss legal and professional obligations to protect the privacy, health, and safety of students, families, and other school professionals. Investigate district policies regarding videotaping of students and collect permission slips as needed for videotaping for TPA #4. TPE 13: Professional Growth Document reflections on teaching practices related to Teacher Performance Expectations and California Standards for the Teaching Profession.
