Civil Basic Concepts of Building

The document provides specifications for building construction including room dimensions, wall and beam sizes, and column sizes. A span of 13 feet between beams does not require support columns. Outer walls should be 8 inches thick while inner walls are 4 inches; room measurements are taken from inner walls. The ratio of slab thickness to beam width is 1 foot to 1 inch, with slab thickness including the beam and wall thicknesses. For a 20 foot span, the beam width should be about 16 inches with an additional 4 inches for the wall thickness. A minimum of 4-5 inches of wall thickness is required above beams as part of the total slab thickness. Recommended column sizes for a 3-floor residential building are 8x12 inches, 12
