Instructor: Ms. Kozloski [email protected] COURSE OUTLINE AND OBJECTIVES: Hello, and welcome to American Literature! In this class, you will build your critical thinking, reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Well do this through studying many texts of various genres and formats. Here you will read and write every day; by the end of the year, you will be able to think about literature and the world around you in an entirely different way. ***Our curriculum is directly aligned with the Common Core State Standards for 10th grade English language arts.
CLASSROOM ATMOSPHERE AND ENVIRONMENT: All ideas are welcome and encouraged, no matter how outlandish or silly they may seem. Think outside the box. There is no one way to interpret literature this is what makes it so wonderful. Discussion will be our main mode of communication. I will avoid lectures as much as possible its up to you to direct your own learning. Ask questions, point out interesting things you notice, and respond to your peers. I am committed to making this class as productive and enjoyable as possible for you. In return, I ask that you make the same commitment. I expect everything you do to be your best work. I have high expectations for each and every one of you, because I know you can and will do great things. Reading and writing can be very difficult. If youre ever struggling, please ask questions or schedule a conference with me. I wont let you fall behind.
