Jntuworld: Structural Analysis - I

This document contains information about a structural analysis exam for a civil engineering course, including 8 practice problems. The document provides details of the course code, maximum marks, time allotted, and instructions to answer 5 of the 8 questions. It then lists the 8 questions, which cover topics like analyzing fixed and continuous beams under different loading conditions using bending moment and shear force diagrams, deflection calculations, strain energy, and truss analysis. Diagrams are provided with some of the beam problems to analyze.

STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS - I
(Civil Engineering)

B.Tech II Year II Semester (R09) Supplementary Examinations November/December 2012

Time: 3 hours Answer any FIVE questions All questions carry equal marks ***** 1.

Max. Marks: 70

A fixed beam AB of span 6 m is carrying a u.d.l. of 6 KN/m over the left half of the span. Find the fixing moments and support reactions. A continuous beam ABCD, simply supported at A,B,C and D is loaded as shown in the figure. Find the moments over the beam and draw bending moment and shear force diagrams.

3.

A continuous beam shown in the figure carries a u.d.l. of 3 KN/m over AB and a point load of 24 KN over BC which is 4 m from the support B. The support B sinks by 0.03 m. Values of E and I are 200 gpa and 0.2X10-3 m2 respectively uniform throughout. Calculate the support moments and draw bending moment diagram and shear force diagram giving critical values.

5. (a) Find the deflection of the centre of a simply supported beam of span l carrying a u.d.l. of w per unit run over the whole span. Assume uniform flexural rigidity. (b) Derive the expression for strain energy due to axial load. 6. Two point loads of 120 KN and 160 KN spaced 5 m apart, cross a girder of 25 m span from left to right with 120 KN load leading. Construct the maximum shear force and bending moment diagrams stating the absolute maximum values. A simply supported beam has a span of 20 m. A u.d.l. of 20 KN/m and 5 m long crosses the span. Find the maximum bending moment produced at a point 8 m from the left support. Explain the solution of trusses with upto two degrees of internal and external indeterminacies. *****
