Rousseau's Theory of Natural Human

Rousseau theorized that in the state of nature before governments existed, humans lived solitary, peaceful lives without competition or conflict. As populations grew, a division of labor developed and the concept of private property was invented, fueling envy, pride, and conflict between people. To remedy this, Rousseau argued people established social contracts and governments to regulate property and promote the common good, though this also introduced new forms of competition and inequality into society.
