What is a demonstrative pronoun?

A demonstrative pronoun points out a specific person, place, thing, or idea.

This and These refer to things that are nearby. (either in space or in time)
1. This is my pencil. 2. This is my sister 3. These are the shoes I want 4. These are my parents.

That and Those refer to things that are farther away in space or time.
1. 2. 3. 4. That is my pencil. Thats my friend. Those are the shoes I want Those are my books.

Also, remember..
This and that are used to refer to singular nouns. Example: This is a delicious apple. That is a delicious apple. These and those are used to refer to plural nouns. Example: These are delicious apples. Those are delicious apples.
