ArcGIS Presentation

This document provides an overview of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the ArcGIS software platform. It defines GIS as systems that capture, store, analyze and present geospatial data linked to locations. ArcGIS is a software used to analyze geospatial data. GIS data can be stored as vectors, representing points, lines and polygons, or as rasters using a grid system of rows and columns. The document demonstrates how to add, identify and get elevation data in ArcGIS using tools like the identify button and national map viewer website.

ArcGIS Intro

Overview of GIS
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are digital

systems used to capture, store, analyze, manage, and present data that is linked to location. GIS data is typically gathered through remote sensing, land surveying, aerial photography, mathematics, geographic tools, census data, and a variety of other sources.
ArcGIS is one of many software platforms used to analyze

geospatial data.
GIS data is a digital representation of real world geo-

physical features

Overview of GIS
GIS data is typically stored in one of two forms:
1. Vector (linear) Represented by geometric shapes: points, lines, and polygons (shapefiles) 2. Raster (matrix) Represented by grids, a system of rows and columns of cells Pixels A location and value

The Arcmap application utilizes various geospatial analysis tools The organization of Arcmap is divided into menu bars, toolbars, and content trees
