Name of Lesson: The Three Little Pigs-Acrostic Poem/Story Quilt/Compare & Contrast Story Maps Rationale: This lesson will conclude our unit, the students will be learning to write a Acrostic Poem, and we will be building a story quilt for all three stories together, and then we will compare/contrast the story maps for all three stories. Objective: The students will create a poem by using the Three Little Pigs letters. The students will design a story quilt square that will be combined with the other student s pieces to make a quilt of The Three Little Pigs. The students will demonstrate their compare/contrast skills they have learned throughout this unit. Standards: 3.5.4 Use varied word choices to make writing interesting. (Core Standard 3.5.7 Write responses to literature that: demonstrate an understanding of what is read. support statements with evidence from the text. 3.3.2 Analysis of Grade-Level-Appropriate Literary Text: Comprehend basic plots of classic fairy tales, myths, folktales, legends, and fables from around the world. (Core Standard) Materials: *story quilt square for each student *crayons *pencil

This lesson is summarizing the unit and using the concepts we have learned in this last lesson. The students will create their own poem using the Three Little Pigs as their subject, and making a story quilt piece of their favorite part of one of the stories. Teaching Procedures: Monday 1. The students will create an Acrostic Poem using the letters from Three Little Pigs they will need to think of a word, phrase or sentence that starts with that letter and describes the three little pigs. Tuesday
2. The students will design a story quilt square. 3. First the students need to choose symbols from the story to use in a pattern to design the border of their quilt square. 4. The students will then choose their favorite part of the story. Illustrate it in the center of the quilt square. Make sure to include the background. 5. Write a few sentences at the bottom that tells what happened in this part of the story and why it is your favorite part. Wednesday 6. Work on story quilt squares. 7. Start putting the quilt together as students finish their piece. Thursday 8. Finish assembling the quilt and hang it on the wall in the hall outside the classroom. 9. Compare/Contrast the story maps from all 3 stories. Friday 10. Take the unit test on The Three Little Pigs.
Guided & Independent Practice: The students will work independently on the Acrostic poem and on their story quilt. Closure: We will review our unit on The Three Little Pigs, talk about the three stories, what the students liked/didnt like, what they learned, which story they liked the best. Assessment of Student Outcomes: The unit test will be my assessment on how well the students understood this unit. Technology: There is not any technology used in this lesson. Adaptations: The only adaptation for this lesson is that I will read the test questions to the ELL and LD students. Evaluation:
