Ocean Lakes High School Seminar Proposal Date of Proposal: __November 21, 2013__ Name: Justin Mariner Mailing Address: 1106 Monitor Ct. Home Telephone Number: N/A (Cell: 757 513 9515) Email Address: [email protected] Topic: What are the processes and standards of game design? Why is this topic relevant (personal, local, global, professional)? This topic is relevant because I spend a lot of time (more than I should) playing video games. I've been doing so for many many years and am familiar with the history and how things have changed. Video games have many positive impacts (against few negative ones) on the current generation. Video games help to improve skills ranging from coordination skills, to teamwork, and even to concentration and memory. And not to mention the economic impacts: the revenue from video games and accessories combined exceeds $10 billion.

What will you be learning during the course of your research (what are your inquiry questions under your umbrella question)? How do the standards differ between professional and "indie" game design? (indie game companies are unaffiliated with larger or more commercial organizations) What are the expectations of individuals or groups in a game design workplace? How does the game design workplace differ from the workplace of other industries? How can the career path of game design be separated into different specifications? How has the game design industry changed over the past decade(s)?

Which qualified professional(s) will you be interviewing as you are researching this topic? (http://www.vbatc.com/vbcontact.html) Name (Mr/Ms/Dr First and Last): Mr. Michael Weber Mailing Address: Phone Number: Email Address: [email protected] What will be the focus for your interview? What information do you hope to learn? Local game design companies for shadowing

How will you obtain the information you need? Through research and interviews and possibly shadowing at a game design company (?) How will you discipline yourself to do the work? (time management, etc.) By creating and following an action plan
