Course summary: Advanced Conversational English is a course which gives students the necessary tools needed to improve their conversational skills. During the first half of the course, the main focus will be on phonetics. In the second half, the students will learn how to apply this knowledge to all aspects of daily speech, like reading, conversing, public speaking, etc. Throughout the course students will work on building their active vocabulary by reading articles on current events.

The instructor provided sessions will focus on: The Phonetic Alphabet Learning the sounds, contrasts and similarities of the English language. Cambodians in Focus Weeding out the common pronunciation errors made by Cambodian speakers. Emphasis and Intonation Introducing intermediate speakers to the effects of variation in tonality and emphasis. Reading Articles Practicing different skills simultaneously while expanding your active vocabulary. Public Speaking Applying phonetics to the preparation process in order to maximise your performance. There will also be a number of assignments and assessments throughout the instruction designed to reinforce the acquired knowledge.
