Laila was glad, when the Taliban went to work, that Babi wasnt around to witness it. It would have crippled him. (Hosseini 280)

Television screens were kicked in. Books, except the Koran, were burned in heaps, the stores that sold them closed down. (Hosseini 208)

They shut down the cinemas too. Cinema Park. Ariana. Aryub. Projection rooms were ransacked and reels of films set to fire. (Hosseini 281)

Kharabat, Kabuls ancient music ghetto, was silenced. Musicians were beaten and imprisoned, their rubbabs, tambouras, and harmoniums trampled upon. (Hosseini 281) The Taliban are destroying everything they see are against their new found beliefs and religion.

Demonstrate the development of complexity of thought at each level by writing a descriptive response to what youve written in the row above. (Analy ze your thought patterns when observing the examples youve listed abovethese may also be in note-taking form)

Lailas father was a very modern man and believed strongly in equality and that women should be equal so seeing that women had no rights would hurt him. By using the word cripple, Hosseini is able to show the readers how much it would have hurt him.

The Taliban are trying to stop people from educating themselves so that they are not able to gain more knowledge and learn about anything besides the religion of Islam.

The Taliban first started off by burning books and now they are moving on to shutting down all forms of entertainment or even learning.
