Background About CNC Machining

CNC machining is a manufacturing process that uses computers to control machine tools like lathes, mills, routers and grinders. A computer program written in CNC machining language (G-code) controls the feed rate, coordination, location and speeds of the machines. First, a CAD drawing is created and then coded for the CNC machine to understand. The program is tested before final production to ensure accuracy and prevent machine damage. CNC machining allows for highly precise and repetitive production of complex 3D shapes, making it useful for jobs requiring precision or repetitive tasks.

CNC Machining is a process used in the manufacturing sector that involves the use of computers to control machine tools. Tools that can be controlled in this manner include lathes, mills, routers and grinders. The CNC in CNC Machining stands for Computer Numerical Control.

On the surface, it may look like a normal PC controls the machines, but the computer's uni ue soft!are and control console are !hat really sets the system apart for use in CNC machining.

"nder CNC Machining, machine tools function through numerical control. # computer program is customi$ed for an ob%ect and the machines are programmed !ith CNC machining language &called '( code) that essentially controls all features like feed rate, coordination, location and speeds. *ith CNC machining, the computer can control e+act positioning and velocity. CNC machining is used in manufacturing both metal and plastic parts.

,irst a C#- dra!ing is created &either .- or /-), and then a code is created that the CNC machine !ill understand. The program is loaded and finally an operator runs a test of the program to ensure there are no problems. This trial run is referred to as 0cutting air0 and it is an important step because any mistake !ith speed and tool position could result in a scraped part or a damaged machine.

There are many advantages to using CNC Machining. The process is more precise than manual machining, and can be repeated in e+actly the same manner over and over again. 1ecause of the precision possible !ith CNC Machining, this process can produce comple+ shapes that !ould be almost impossible to achieve !ith manual machining. CNC Machining is used in the production of many comple+ three(dimensional shapes. 2t is because of these ualities that CNC Machining is used in %obs that need a high level of precision or very repetitive tasks.

2f you are considering a career in CNC Machining, it !ould be useful to have a background in mathematics, industrial arts and mechanical drafting, as !ell as computer usage.
