Inquiry: What psychologically makes a person feel the need to bully another person on
social media?
Proposed Thesis: There are psychological explanations behind cyber bullying.

Mean to Adolescents? Relational Aggression Described by Victims, Aggressors, and
Their Peers." Journal of Adolescent Research 25 (2010): 176-204. Print.
Pronk compares the differences between girls and boys to find the different
motivations behind cyber bullying will help back up my own thoughts and opinions. In
this article she states that she found the motivations of the adolescents to be three things,
social dynamics, meaning power and dominance; aggressors emotional state, meaning
jealousy and anger; and victim characteristics, meaning lack of social appeal and
emotionality. My original thoughts on the reason behind cyber bullying were popularity
and social dominance. While working with the boys and girls she states, Most
participants described relational aggression as a behavior that assists in climbing the
social ladder. I will use this as a back up statement to my beliefs, as well as, the more
factual information from this article.
Schoffstall, Corrie L., and Robert Cohen. "Cyber Aggression: The Relation between
Online Offenders and Offline Social Competence." Social Development 20.3
(2011): 587-604. Print.
Schoffstall uses mostly mathematics to find the answers he is looking for, such as,
charts and equations to find the differences between the boys and girls and their different
situations. Although, I do not completely agree with his method of judging a group of

people and their ethics with numbers, I do, however, think that it can help my research
having that data and actual math behind all the facts.
Bonanno, Rina A., and Shelley Hymel. "Cyber Bullying and Internalizing Difficulties:
Above and Beyond the Impact of Traditional Forms of Bullying." Journal of Youth
and Adolescence 42.5 (2013): 685-97. Print.
I think that Bonanno and Hymels research and results will help me to develop my
paper and my thoughts while going through this process. Even though, their research is
on the differences between cyber bullying and traditional bullying, I can use their
findings on the psychological reasons behind traditional bullying as a comparison to my
findings with cyber bullying. In this journal they also, as the title says, look at the
impacts of cyber bullying beyond the impacts of traditional bullying, also, I can use this
article to pull in more stats and data for my own research.

Behaviors: Physical, Verbal, Exclusion, Rumor, and Cyber." Journal of School
Psychology 50.4 (2012): 521-34. Print.
This article will help me with my research because the authors have studied the
behaviors behind all types of bullying giving me variety so I am able to compare and
contrast the different behaviors of all the types of bullying to help me dig deeper for my
own answer. In the article they go through their methods to find their results and
compared males and females, which, can help me conduct my own methods and
functions behind the math and data. This source has a lot of really good information in it
that I find very useful and relevant to my topic.

This article is by far the best source Ive found in this whole research process
because it goes right along the lines of my inquiry and my thesis.. The results that he

research further down this project.
Drue,
I think you do have some good information here and you also have a potentially
compelling thesis. But if feel like Im missing a lot of analysis here. I need you to be an
active participant I the conversation as opposed to a passive reporter. Really dig deeper
here.
