Process Analysis: Process Flowcharting: Process Performance Measurements

Process analysis examines how inputs are transformed into outputs through a series of steps or tasks. Process flowcharting uses diagrams and symbols to map out the steps, decisions, storage areas, and flows within a process. Key process performance measurements include throughput time, cycle time, inventory levels, efficiency, and productivity.

Process Analysis
How input to output transformation works, output more valuable than inputs
What goes into a process must come out of the process. Input rate must be less than or equal to
the output rate, otherwise the System will overflow.

Key Terms
Throughput time
Cycle Time/Process Rate
Littles Law: Throughput Time = Work-in-process/throughput Rate
Efficiency : actual output/ std. output
Productivity: Input/Output
Pacing : movement of items through a timing mechanism
Bottleneck: a resource that limits max output
Improving Process Performance
Reducing Throughput time:
* Perform Activities in parallel
* Change the sequence of activities
* Reduce interruptions
