Wood Beam: Material Properties

This document summarizes the structural analysis of a wood beam with a span of 8 feet. The beam is made of Douglas Fir-Larch grade No. 1. Uniform and varying uniform loads were applied representing roof and wall loads. Point loads were also applied. The maximum bending stress was calculated to be 34.08 psi, well below the allowable stress of 1,345.87 psi. The maximum shear stress was 7.24 psi, below the allowable of 512.2 psi. Deflections were all well below limits. The beam was determined to be structurally sufficient.
