Right Sided Congestive Heart Failure

Right sided congestive heart failure is caused by conditions that increase pressure in the right atrium and veins, such as pulmonary embolism or right ventricular infarction. Symptoms include neck vein engorgement, hepatomegaly, ascites, peripheral edema, and splenomegaly as blood drains back from the overloaded right ventricle into the right atrium due to decreased filling and contractility of the right side of the heart.
