Glaucoma is a serious eye condition known as the "silent thief of sight" as it often causes vision loss without pain. It results from an increase in pressure inside the eye that damages the optic nerve. Risk factors include family history, diabetes, high blood pressure, eye injuries, and use of steroid medications. To help prevent and manage glaucoma, people should maintain a healthy lifestyle with exercise and diet, monitor eye pressure, see a doctor for any vision problems, and have family members screened.
