ENT161 Assignment

This document contains an assignment for an electric circuits course. It includes 3 questions with multiple parts about circuit analysis concepts. Question 1 involves defining circuit terms like branches and nodes, calculating equivalent resistances, and combining resistors to replace a value. Question 2 covers mesh and nodal analysis to solve for voltages and power. Question 3 has students determine maximum power transfer in circuits and develop Thevenin and Norton equivalents. The document provides circuit diagrams to analyze for each question.

[Litar Elektrik]

Due Date: 27 October 2014

Question 1

(a) By using appropriate diagrams, define the following terms:

(i) Branch, node and loop

(ii) Kirchhoffs current law

(b) Based on series/parallel resistance combination circuit, find the equivalent resistance
seen by the source in the circuit of Figure 1.0. Find the overall dissipated power.

(d) A lab assistant is required to construct an electric circuit to switch ON a lamp. He needs a 35 k
resistor in order to complete the circuit. However there only have a 10 k, 20 k and 50 k
resistors are available in his lab.

i. Suggest the minimal combination of resistance value that can be used in order to
replace this 35 k resistor and shows the calculation involved.

ii. Draw the final circuit using the new combination resistors as mentioned in (i) .
