Autumn Term 2014

Good Things Grow Here

Congratulations to Mrs McCrimmon

If you follow us on twitter @mill_view you will have noticed that Mrs McCrimmon has achieved the National
Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) with flying colours.
Mrs McCrimmon has attended numerous face:face courses at Kelsall Primary School and Tattenhall Residential
Centre. As part of this qualification she was encouraged to develop her own learning through completing online
learning in preparation for the day courses. Mrs McCrimmon led staff on two whole school projects this year. These
included a focus on Pupil Premium Grant spending throughout the school and raising pupil attainment in Reading at
the end of Key Stage 2.

Being Ready to Learn

Over the last 2 weeks I have been observing learning and teaching across the school. It has been noticed that there
a significant number of children who are not ready for learning at the start of the school day. Some children are
very tired and it is affecting their ability to learn effectively. Please could you encourage your child to go to bed
reasonably early? Thank you.

SEN Change Team Update

The SEN change team continues to meet regularly to make sure that the school is moving ahead to implement the
2014 SEND (Special Educational Needs/Disability) Code of Practice.
At our last meeting we
discussed progress towards the development of one page profiles for all the children which are designed to
help them to think about what is helpful (and unhelpful) to their learning and wellbeing;
evaluated how our new Plan, Do, Review system (which is replacing IEPs) is being implemented. These will
be shared with parents very soon; and
discussed the definition and identification of SEND in the school.
There is lots of useful information for parents at
http://www.westcheshirelocaloffer.co.uk/kb5/cheshirewestandchester/directory/home.page
We are using the change of policy as an opportunity to look carefully at our provision and make improvements
where necessary. If you have any questions about these changes, do please ask Mr. Wilson or Mrs. Noble who will
be more than happy to speak with you.

Please can I remind you that long hair needs to be tied up for school using a black/grey/red
bobble only no large bows or hair decorations thank you.
Morrisons Vouchers
Thank you to all our families who have given their Morrison's vouchers to us. We have received just over 3000
vouchers and have been able to order 2 fruit trees, some trowels for Forest School, some steps for our Reception
class and a large wooden planter for our outdoor area.

Dont forget to order your childs Christmas lunch by completing the school menu and
returning it back to school by Thursday 11 December. Please do not return the invitation.

Childrens Commissioners Takeover Day

On Friday 21 November there was a Takeover Day by the children as they planned lessons, led the whole school
assembly, observed teaching and provided feedback to teachers, interviewed governors and became a teaching
assistant, administration officer, midday assistant, school cook, Headteacher, teacher, or Learning Mentor for part of
the school day. Our School Council, with the guidance from Mrs White, planned an excellent day and we all had
great fun whilst the children were given the chance to work with adults and be involved in decision-making. The
children benefitted from the opportunity to experience the world of work and make their voices heard, whilst we
gained a fresh perspective on what we do at school!

Managing Behaviour Course for Parents

Mrs. Gibbons and Mrs. Noble have been enjoying sharing the Managing Behaviour course with about 36 parents.
This is the same system that all staff have been trained to use at Mill View. Over four weeks, we have thought
about lots of aspects of behaviour management, including staying composed, setting boundaries, helping children to
make good choices and handling conflict.
Feedback from parents has been very positive. One parent said, I feel more confident in trying to empower my
children in making decisions and managing behaviour. Great techniques. Everyone who responded via the course
evaluation form said that they would recommend the course to other parents.
We hope to offer the course again. Please let us know if you would be interested in attending.

Car Accident in School Car Park

On Wednesday 26 November a teachers car was damaged whilst parked in our car park by someone driving a white
car. Unfortunately the damage is over 200. The incident was not reported to us and as failure to stop at the scene
of an accident is an offence under Section 170 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 the matter has been reported to the
police.

Anti-Bullying Week
Last week at Mill View we recognised Anti Bullying Week. We began with an assembly and then continued exploring
the theme in our classes. We thought about what the word bullying means and thought of ways to handle being
bullied, realising that you are bullying and seeing others being bullied. Everyone was given a leaflet Keeping Safe at
Mill View which explained clearly what to do if children ever find themselves in any of these situations, what to do,
what not to do and what words to say. Well done especially to Key Stage 2 classes who handled this subject with
maturity.

Engaging Children in Learning

Our school curriculum involves the children actively engaging in blogs and forums at home on the school website to
enrich their learning. This information is used subsequently in lessons. Teachers remind the children when there are
forums; however, there is often a poor response. Please could we remind our families that there is a wealth of
information provided by teachers on the school website about your childs learning and how you can support at
home through engaging in blogs and forums? If you do not have access to the internet at home the IT suite is
available after school. Thank you to all our families who regularly comment on blogs and forums.

And finally

Mr Morris kindly transported 80 boxes from our

school community to the depot in Wrexham. Mr
Morris will be taking the boxes to Romania in early
December.
